time for a new post it is 2011! and this blog is still here. The Clay Club is going strong. They changed the college name to Lone Star college Mongtgomery. I suppose the Clay club is now called LSC-Montgomery Clay Club. Still the same idea. mud and fire. dry earthy oxides, potassium and sodium salts and clay transformed each week for your enrichment/entertainment.

MC2 Wood Kiln

We fired the wood kiln tuesday st. paddy's day and unloaded thursday. I think it went well. some porcelain cups with st. john's black I had in there were nice and Renee had a red box that was nice. my rutile test tiles were tan so - not enough reduction i guess.

Hey! tuesday was a good day - we fired the wood kiln at lone star college - montgomery. it was st. paddy's day so every one was checked for green. and everyone was irish, i suspect. or got pinched. it was a good day. lots of great wood chopping. and great kiln stoking.

i'm so glad that amy and jamie came by to relate their stories about tech and unt.

tomorrow we open the kiln to unload so we will know how it went. Until then...stay muddy.

If this is friday May 4th, the anagama in wiemer is being fired right now!!!! There is also a pit-fire planned -same place- this weekend. I'd (the blog would) very much like to hear from ppl who were there how it went so let me know. Plus, send any pictures you get/take and I will post them here.

meanwhile. very quiet on campus today. strangely dark in the studio...for a friday.

MC Clay Club at Waterway Festival

Thanks to everyone from Montgomery College who worked volunteer gigs at the Woodlands Waterway Art festival. The MC clay club had some cold people demo-ing throwing in very chilly weather. Great Job!!! Robby worked 8-8 all weekend. Jamie and Marcia helped out on Saturday. Lorena wowed folks on saturday with her demo skills (nice hair, too) and Katie threw 75 lbs of clay over Saturday/Sunday. Amazing. Awesome. Very inspiring.

Empty Bowls - results increase over last year!

Results from this year's Empty Bowls Houston amounted to more than $39,000! This was an increase over last year's $26,000, largely due to Whole Foods, who contributed 5% of its February 28 sales to Empty Bowls. Artists contributed more than 1300 bowls this year, and approximately 200 of these were from K-12 schools. Thanks to everyone who contributed his and her time and talent by making bowls and by volunteering!

MC Clay Club will be hosting a Throw-a-thon in efforts to produce bowls for the Empty Bowls. We
will be doing this from 10-2pm Friday 2/9.

This is for an awesome cause and I hope to see everyone there.

Also, we will use this time to do a small club meeting. There are some important things that need to be discussed.

Texas Clay Festival October 28th and 29th 2006

Mark your calendar now! You won't want to miss the 14th annual Texas Clay Festival
in the Gruene Historic District of New Braunfels on Saturday and Sunday October 28th and 29th. There will be demonstrations and exhibitions of over forty potters and sculptors. Admission is free. The first Texas Teapot Tournament 2007 is a membership driven
competition to introduce C.A.M.E.O. (CLAY ART MUSEUM &
EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATION) - Houston Potters Guild’s
newly formed non-profit corporation. C.A.M.E.O. and the Texas
Teapot Tournament were established to satisfy the local clay
community, customers’ interests, and “for all to know the joy of
clay”.

The deadline for entry is Nov 5th 2006.

Exhibition @UHCL

Currently showing at the University of Houston-Clear Lake Art Gallery are two recent graduates of the Graduate Humanities Program, Images.

Che-Hwa Wang is exhibiting Raku sculptures and Lisa
Warthen ceramics, prints, constructions and paintings.

The exhibition will run through October 27th. Hours:

MC Clay Club <> Fall 2006!

The Montgomery County College Clay Club held its first meeting on Thursday 9-7-2006. Megan is theVice President and Jamie is the President (corrected) and Luis is the student rep so he's going to attend the next MCC student govt meeting. So that's great!

We voted to buy a chop saw to cut up pallets for the first wood firing on October 5th (load Weds 10-4 Noon, unload Friday 10-6).
